Frequently Asked Questions About The Lighthouse Recovery Services
Choosing recovery support is a significant decision, whether you are seeking help for yourself or someone you love. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question here, our team is always available for a confidential conversation.
What is The Lighthouse Recovery Services?
The Lighthouse Recovery Services is a recovery support organization based in New Canaan, Connecticut. We provide recovery residences for men and women, Recovery 365, family coaching, case management, intervention services, recovery companions, transportation, alumni programming, and other recovery support services.
Our focus is helping individuals build meaningful, sustainable lives in recovery through community, accountability, and personalized support.
Is The Lighthouse a treatment center?
No.
The Lighthouse is not a detox, inpatient rehabilitation center, or clinical treatment program. Many clients come to us after completing treatment, while others begin their recovery journey with Lighthouse as an alternative to a traditional residential treatment experience.
We work closely with therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, outpatient programs, and other clinical providers to ensure clients receive the care and support that best fits their individual needs.
Who does The Lighthouse serve?
The Lighthouse serves adults who are seeking a personalized, recovery-focused environment with ongoing support.
Many of our clients are professionals, business owners, healthcare providers, attorneys, executives, parents, and individuals balancing demanding careers or family responsibilities. Others simply value privacy, community, and individualized care.
What unites our clients is a shared commitment to building a healthier, more fulfilling life in recovery.
Is Lighthouse only for executives?
No.
While many of our clients have demanding careers or leadership responsibilities, Lighthouse welcomes anyone looking for a supportive recovery community and personalized recovery services.
Our programs are designed for individuals who value discretion, meaningful relationships, and a thoughtful approach to recovery. Every client receives individualized support based on their unique needs and goals.
Do I have to complete treatment before coming to Lighthouse?
Not always.
While many clients join Lighthouse after detox or residential treatment, others begin their recovery journey with us as an alternative to a traditional 30-day rehabilitation program.
Our admissions team works with every individual to determine whether Lighthouse is the appropriate level of support and can help coordinate additional clinical care when needed.
What makes Lighthouse different?
Recovery does not end when treatment ends.
Our approach emphasizes long-term recovery through connection, community, accountability, and ongoing support. Clients have access to recovery residences, Recovery 365, family coaching, alumni programming, community events, and individualized recovery planning.
We believe lasting recovery happens by building a life that supports wellness, not simply by completing a program.
What is Recovery 365?
Recovery 365 is our personalized recovery coaching program for men, women, and families.
Unlike traditional coaching programs that focus primarily on one-on-one sessions, Recovery 365 provides access to the broader Lighthouse community. Clients are invited to attend groups, shared meals, educational programming, and community events while working closely with their recovery coach.
This combination of coaching and community creates ongoing support that extends well beyond treatment.
Can I participate in Recovery 365 without living at Lighthouse?
Yes.
Recovery 365 is available to both residents and non-residents. Many clients live independently while remaining connected to Lighthouse through coaching, recovery groups, family services, and community programming.
What are the Men's and Women's Recovery Residences?
Our residences provide structured recovery living in comfortable, home-like environments designed to support long-term recovery.
Residents benefit from recovery coaching, shared meals prepared by private chefs, recovery groups, wellness programming, transportation support, and a strong sense of community.
Many individuals come after treatment, while others choose Lighthouse as an alternative to a traditional rehabilitation program.
What is The Lighthouse Commons?
The Lighthouse Commons offers independent apartment living with continued access to Lighthouse services and community.
Designed for individuals with established recovery who are ready for greater independence, Commons residents continue participating in coaching, community programming, groups, and shared meals while living in private apartments.
It provides the next step between structured residential living and complete independence.
What is Family Coaching?
Recovery affects the entire family.
Our Family Coaching program helps loved ones better understand recovery, improve communication, establish healthy boundaries, and rebuild trust.
Our coaches are trained in the Invitation to Change Model®, a compassionate, evidence-informed approach developed by Carrie Wilkens and Jeffrey Foote that empowers families to support recovery while caring for their own wellbeing.
Can my family participate even if I am not living at Lighthouse?
Yes.
Family Coaching is available for both Lighthouse families and those seeking support independently. Families often benefit from guidance regardless of where their loved one is receiving care.
What is a Recovery Coach?
Recovery Coaches are trained professionals who help individuals strengthen recovery through accountability, goal setting, problem solving, and connection to resources and community.
Rather than providing therapy, coaches help clients navigate everyday life while building confidence, resilience, and lasting recovery.
Do you offer intervention services?
Yes.
Our intervention services help families encourage a loved one toward treatment or recovery support. Every situation is unique, and our team works collaboratively to develop a thoughtful, individualized approach.
Do you provide case management?
Yes.
Our case management team coordinates communication between treatment providers, therapists, physicians, attorneys, employers, families, and other professionals to ensure every client has a well-organized support network.
What are Recovery Companion and Transportation Services?
Recovery companions provide individualized support during travel, transitions, professional obligations, medical appointments, and other situations where additional accountability may be helpful.
Transportation services are available both nationally and internationally.
Can I continue working while receiving services?
Many clients gradually return to work while participating in Lighthouse services.
Our programs are designed to support real life. We work with each individual to create a plan that balances recovery with personal, family, and professional responsibilities whenever appropriate.
Is privacy important at Lighthouse?
Absolutely.
Many of our clients value discretion and confidentiality. We understand the importance of protecting privacy and creating an environment where individuals feel safe focusing on recovery without unnecessary attention.
What does a typical day look like?
Each client’s experience is individualized, but many days include recovery coaching, community meals, wellness activities, recovery groups, physical fitness, work responsibilities, personal time, and opportunities to connect with peers and staff.
The goal is to create a healthy daily rhythm that supports long-term recovery.
Do you offer alumni services?
Yes.
Recovery continues long after formal services end. Our alumni community stays connected through educational programming, fellowship events, volunteer opportunities, community gatherings, and ongoing recovery support.
Many former clients remain actively involved in the Lighthouse community for years.
How do I know if Lighthouse is the right fit?
Every person’s recovery journey is unique.
The best way to determine whether Lighthouse is the right fit is through a confidential conversation with our admissions team. We will take time to understand your situation, answer your questions, and help you explore the support options that best meet your needs.
